Are you being your authentic self?

This evening I had a client booked in for an appointment and with an hour to spare beforehand I thought I would write a blog post. Funnily enough, I finished writing just before they arrived. We started the session and one of the first things we started to talk about was confidence and your inner voice, which is exactly what I had been writing about!

If you read my last blog post about confidence, you will be familiar with the inner voice, you know that voice you hear that can be highly critical and say things we wouldn't dare say to another person. Another phrase that came up when we were talking about confidence was 'being your authentic self'. I absolutely love this phrase. I am sure everyone will have their own view of what it is and what it means to them, but it is something personal and individual to us all. So I wanted to share with you my thoughts on being your authentic self!

In the busy world we live in, it is so easy to get caught up in everything going on in the world around us and not actually take time to focus on ourselves. If we are forever rushing from here to there and channelling all our energy into a stressful job or pleasing other people, when do we have time to self-reflect and be true to ourselves?

What are we getting out of life? What do we enjoy? How does it make us feel? I see so many people who feel stressed and overworked and I tell them 'work to live, don't live for work'. Yet if you slow down and step back from everything that is going on and reassess your life you see it is time to focus on what is important to you.

Who am I? If I asked you that question what would you say? You would probably start by telling me your name, what do you, maybe about your family or work. Is that what defines you? Is that all you are?

What if I asked you about the authentic you? You would probably stop and think for a moment, possibly with a puzzled expression. After a pause, you would start to open up to me more about what you are like as a person, what you enjoy and what makes you tick. Then if I asked you how many hours a week you spent being your authentic self, what would you say? I am guessing for most people it would be, not very many hours.

Being the authentic you is about being true to yourself, your beliefs, your feelings. If inside you feel passionately about something you should feel confident enough to share this with others. If you want to look or behave in a certain way that feels more true to you then do it! What would stop you? The fear or judgement. That inner negative voice we spoke about is there saying but what will other people think? What will they say? How will they react? Being in a place where you are confident enough to be your authentic self, enables you to be empowered to take control of your life and live it in the way you find most fulfilling.

The fear of judgement from others should never hold us back. If we can be true to ourselves the opinions of others won't get us down because we know it is just not worth worrying about. We can't control other people's reactions to us but we can control our own reactions and feelings.

If you feel there is something in the way of you being your authentic self then this is a barrier we can remove together. The CONTROL System can directly communicate with your subconscious mind to reframe how you view yourself, your priorities and your life into the positive patterns you want to be your authentic self!
